GARDEN CITY, KS – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team dropped their first match of the season on the road in a 3-0 decision to Garden City Community College, giving up a pair of first half goals to the Broncbusters on the first leg of a two-match road trip through Kansas.
The Golden Eagles started out the match with good energy and had a few early looks but couldn't find the frame on either one.
Twelve minutes in, it was Garden City that took command of the momentum on a counterattack that opened a one-on-one with the keeper and gave the Broncbusters the opening 1-0 lead.
LCCC settled down their defense and seemed to compose themselves for the rest of the half but were surprised in the 37th minute when GCCC finished a second shot to give themselves a more comfortable lead going into the half. This despite a valiant effort by the Golden Eagles in the final five minutes that put pressure on the Garden City goalie with another few good looks.
In the second half, it was another early strike from Garden City in the 52nd minute that would be a dagger to the chances for the Golden Eagles, pushing the lead to 3-0.
From there, LCCC couldn't quite find their way through the defense with any regularity, being outshot 12-3 in the second half after both sides finished with six shots each in the first half.
Garden City also finished the game with more corner kicks, including an 8-2 advantage in the second half, but freshman goalie Luke Hyatt played well in net, saving nine shots in the game and seven in the second half of play.
The Golden Eagles don't have much time to think on the loss, as they are right back in action with the second leg of their trip through Kansas on Sunday morning.
They face off against Seward County Community College at 10:00 AM MDT looking to split the road trip. This is the first of two long road trips for the Golden Eagles, with a second trip to New York for matches with Monroe College and Monroe Community College slated for next weekend to close out the non-conference schedule.
