Great Bend, Kan. - In their worst shooting game of the season so far, The #23 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team opened up their spring semester with a 51-40 road loss at the hands of the Barton Cougars. With the loss, the Red Ravens' overall record falls to 10-3 on the season including a 5-2 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.
Coffeyville simply could not put the ball in the basketball. The three-week holiday break seemed to put some rust on the Ravens as they shot just 27% overall from the field marking the worst shooting night of the season so far for Coffeyville. The Cougars of Barton did not shoot much better, only connecting on 33% of their shots. However, Barton outrebounded the Ravens by a 46-33 mark. The added rebounds combined with a 14-6 free throw advantage enabled the Cougars to defeat the Ravens on the evening.
Coffeyville was led by sophomore Bailey Layman with 9 points and sophomore Jae'Mya Lyons with 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The Ravens will return to action on Saturday, January 6th with a home matchup against the Garden City Broncbusters. Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
