Highland Men's Basketball Claims Home Win Over Graceland JV

It was a hot start to the night for the Highland men's basketball team on Monday night as they established control early against Graceland University JV early and secured the 96-53 win to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Scotties jumped up 8-0 over the first three minutes of the contest which led an early Graceland timeout and Highland just continued to expand their lead growing it to a 53-21 advantage by halftime. The Scotties shot 59% from the floor in the first half and held Graceland in check to just 32% from the floor in the first half.

The lead grew to over 40 points in the second half as the Scotties capped the 96-53 behind five guys in double figures and another 50+% shooting performance as a team from the floor as the Scotties shot 54.1% for the game.

Highland turned 22 Graceland turnovers into 39 points in the contest, while registering 21 assists on 40 made field goals and only had 10 turnovers with seven coming in the first half.

Rashon Johnson paced the Scotties with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Dylan Vincent added 17 points on 7-9 shooting adding five assists. Jaron Flowers recorded his first double figure performance in college posting a career best 11 points, while Alex Dolce added 10 points and Denzel Knight had 10 points and nine rebounds. Trey Twa chipped in eight points and eight rebounds, also on the night.

Highland takes their 2-0 record on the road to continue the season later this week as they will be a part of the Gladbach Classic in Fort Scott, Kansas playing on Thursday and Friday, November 7th and 8th against Neosho County and Northwest Tech at 4:00pm and 2:00pm, respectively.
