El Dorado, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team opened the 2025 spring schedule with a 52-48 road loss at the #RV Butler Grizzlies. With the loss, the Red Ravens' 2024-25 record moves to 10-3 overall including a 5-3 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) record.
Coffeyville opened the game against the Grizzlies on a 7-1 run to take the early lead midway through the first quarter. Butler responded with a couple of made 3-pointers on an 8-0 run to take the lead 9-7 just 90 seconds later. The rest of the first half was back and forth with Butler taking the slim 26-23 lead into halftime.
Butler outscored Coffeyville 21-14 in the third quarter to hold a 10-point 47-37 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Red Ravens gave it a run in the fourth quarter holding Butler to only 5 fourth-quarter points, however, Coffeyville's offense could not make up the 10-point deficit and ultimately lost 52-48.
Game leaders for Coffeyville included sophomores Norika Welch with 12 points and 5 rebounds and Karys Washington with an 11-point 13 rebound double-double.
Coffeyville will return to the court with a home game scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th against the Pratt Beavers. Game time in Nellis Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
