Lakers Split at Johnson County

Estherville, IA- The Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team grabbed their first win on the season after splitting at the Johnson County Classic this weekend.

In their first game of the weekend the Lakers would face 15th ranked Johnson County. The Lakers would fall to Johnson County 78-66

The Lakers were led by Jermaine Freemen with 19 points. Ashton Hermann and Steven Martinez would each add 11, and Kaden Tate would add 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Johnson County was led by Gavin Harvey with 21 points. 

Laker Head Coach Jason McKinney had this to say about the game. "Our defensive effort was great in the first half and we did a really good job on the glass. We have to continue to get better on the offensive end of the floor if want to finish off games." 

In their second game of the weekend the Lakers would take on Highland Kansas. The Lakers would respond with an 74-67 win. 

The Lakers were led by Jade West with 20 points. Jermaine Freeman would chip in 17 points, Jhordan Ryan would score 11points and grab 10 rebounds, and Steven Martinez would add 10 points.

Highland was led by Rashad Kee with 20 points.

Lakers Head Coach Jason McKinney had this to say about the game. " Our defense was solid again tonight, we did a great job on the glass. We turned the ball over to much which led to some easy transition baskets for Highland. We have to really lock in and continue to improve on the offensive end of the floor. Really proud of how this group responded after a tough loss. "

The Lakers will next travel to Marshalltown next weekend to take part of the Emerson Classic. The Lakers will play John Wood on Friday at 3, and DME Prep on Saturday at 3.
