Knight scores season high 24 points in big road win over Dodge City

The Butler women's basketball team (3-0, 2-0) picked up their third win of the season and second straight KJCCC win with an 82-39 route of Dodge City Saturday on the road.

This is the eighth-straight win over the Conquistadors and head coach Mike Helmer's 20th. He is 9-1 on the road at Dodge and 20-1 overall in the series.

Butler started the game on a 16-2 run and never looked back. Their 29-8 first quarter, sparked by Skyla Knight's 15 first quarter points, gave the Grizzlies a gap the Conqs could never close.

Skyla Knight led the way for Butler scoring 24 points on 11-14 from the floor, 2-3 from deep. She finished with six steals, four rebounds and a blocked shot. Paris Mullins scored 18 points in the contest while grabbing five rebounds. Kaylee Nero was the other Grizzly in double figures with 11-points and six rebounds.

Tamara Nard had a game high 12 rebounds to go along with her six points. Cameren Downs managed the Butler offense well from her point guard position dishing out seven assists, picking up six boards and three steals with two points scored. Cymirah Williams was all over the floor posting an impressive stat line with six points, five rebounds, four steals and three blocks in her 16 minutes of action.

"This was a good road win for us," said head coach Mike Helmer. "Our girls played good defense and really got up and down the floor all game. We jumped on them early and it was hard for them to get back in it the way we were playing."

The Grizzlies now turn their attention to No. 12 ranked Hutchinson (3-0, 2-0). The Blue Dragons will head to the Power Plant on Wednesday, February 3rd for a 5:30pm matchup. The Grizzlies hope to get redemption from their 73-55 loss a season ago at home versus the Blue Dragons.

Notes: Butler wins their eight straight over Dodge City. Coach Mike Helmer is 20-1 during his tenure and the Grizzlies are 27-8 since the 2001 season. The 82 points scored ties the most points a Butler team has put up in Dodge City and the 43-point win is the largest margin of victory for the Grizzlies on the road in Dodge City.
