Highland Women's Basketball Cruises Past Hesston Behind Big Performances

The Highland women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak and got back in the win column on Saturday cruising past Hesston for their 20th win of the season laying claim to a 120-45 win.

After a tight contest for the first seven and half minutes, the Scotties finished the first quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 25-11 over the Larks of Hesston. The points continued to pour in for Highland in the second quarter as the Scotties extended their lead and used an 11-0 run in the second to help lead to a 55-25 lead at halftime.

The second half didn't differ from the first as the Scotties outscored Hesston 38-12 in the third quarter shooting 50% from the floor in the 10-minute stanza, while the Scotties closed the game on a 25-6 run over the final nine minutes of the game to close out the 120-45 win.

Scotties surpassed 100 points for the sixth time this season and did so by shooting 44.4% from the floor and had 30 assists on 44 made field goals. While defensively Highland held Hesston in check as the Larks shot 34.7% from the floor and had 39 turnovers which the Scotties scored 51 points off of as Highland recorded 27 steals.

Tiana Gipson paced Highland with 26 points on 9-16 shooting including eight three-pointers which gave her 178 career three-pointers in two seasons at Highland breaking the school record. Armani Turner added 22 points, eight rebounds, five rebounds, and four steals. While Erin Randle continued to put up monstrous performances in Conference play finishing with nearly a quadruple-double with 12 points, 14 rebounds, 10 steals and nine assists.

Khaliah Hines added 17 points and nine rebounds and off the bench Charlay Conway tallied 12 points with five steals and four assists.

The win moves Highland to 20-2 on the season and 6-2 in KJCCC action. Scotties have two more games left in the regular season both on the road as Highland will play #15 KCK on Wednesday, February 19th and Fort Scott on Saturday, February 22nd.
