Blue Devil Volleyball Moves On to Plains District B Tournament Final

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball took down the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norsemen Nov. 6 at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. in the semifinal of the Plains District B Tournament. This is the second time the Blue Devils and Golden Norsemen have faced off against one another this year. The last matchup ended in a reverse sweep in favor of the Blue Devils on  Oct. 4 at Mid-America Nazarene University.

The Blue Devils won in four sets with scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-21. Geme Ajekwu had the best match of her collegiate career in her two years at KCKCC. She recorded a career-high 18 kills on 30 total attempts, five block assists and three solo blocks. This was the perfect time for the 6'2 sophomore out of Lawrence, Kan. to start kicking it into gear. Mercedez Brown had 12 kills on her 38 total attempts along with 16 digs. Alejandra Aponte also recorded 16 digs as well as two service aces. Both Nykeriah Allen and Sophia Frerking were strong defensively as they both had three block assists each. Veronica Rolando oversaw 36 of the 53 assists and recorded three service aces. Emma Ayers currently sits in the first place in the KCKCC Volleyball record book for service aces with 119. Rolando currently sits at 107 (2nd place) in just one single season as a Blue Devil. 

The next match for the Blue Devils volleyball team will be against No.10 Johnson County Community College on Nov. 9 for the Plains District B Tournament final at Friends University in Wichita, Kan.
