Highland Women Take One On the Road Over MCC

Highland women headed on the road and snagged win number 11 of the season topping Metropolitan Community College 87-61.

It was a tight battle early as the teams traded the lead early with the Scotties going up 14-9 at the 3:42 mark of the first quarter after a 9-4 run, but the lead was only two by the end of the first as Highland led 21-19.

The second quarter proved to be the big difference in the game as the Scotties forced some turnovers and turned them into points putting together an 18-0 run towards the end of the first half to secure a 44-27 lead at intermission. Destiny Cartwright had an eight burst herself during the 18-0 run for Highland as the Scotties outscored MCC 23-8 in the second quarter.

Highland continued to grow the lead in the second half pushing it out further with several women contributing as the lead grew to over 20-points in the third quarter and the Scotties locked up the 87-61 road win.

Four double figure scorers led the Scotties on the night as Highland shot 40.9% from the floor and won the rebounding margin 48-32 over the Wolves of MCC. Scotties recorded 17 assists on 27 made field goals. Defensively the Scotties held MCC in check as the Wolves shot just 28% from the floor and had 16 turnovers.

Erin Randle led the Scotties with a career best performance notching her fourth double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds and also had a career high six blocks, while Tiana Gipson dropped 16 points adding four assists and four steals. Charlay Conway also had a career night with her first double figure performance of her career finishing with 13 points, while going 8-11 from the free throw line and adding four steals. Riana Lawson chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.

The win moves the Scotties to 11-0 on the season as the season continues to roll along on Saturday, December 7th at home against Friends University JV at 2:00pm.
