Butler Sweeps Garden at Home to Close Out Series

EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler took two games from the Garden City Broncobusters at McDonald Stadium on Saturday afternoon to complete a four-game sweep on the season.

Butler (17-11, 9-3 KJCCC) won the first game 11-1 in a six-inning run rule before taking the second game 4-0 in nine innings.

The Grizzlies return to action on Thursday for non-conference action at Cowley for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Butler 11, Garden City 1

Butler's starting pitcher Bradyn McClure (W, 3-2) had a career-best performance. He tossed all 6.0 innings, a career-high, as well as striking out a career-high eight and walking none. He allowed just one run on two hits.

The Grizzlies scored six of their 11 runs in the second inning, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Third baseman Anibal Rivera hit a bases clearing single through the right side that made it 6-1.

Garden City's Dawson Stutz hit a solo home run in the second for the Broncbusters lone run of the game.

Seven Grizzlies finished with a hit, and Jaron Brown and Micah Kobuszewski each drove in a team-high two runs. Butler also utilized nine walks in the game. Taber Stokes stole three bases.

Game 2: Butler 4, Garden City 0

Game two proved to be a low scoring affair with neither team bringing a run across until Butler plated two in the fifth.

Another Grizzly pitcher had a career-best performance as Austin Bagnall (W, 3-1) threw a career-high 7.0 shutout innings, striking out a career-high eight batters while walking just two and allowing three hits. Dayton Pelfrey and Jack Haag each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to close the game out.

Broncbuster starter Jace Reid (L, 0-3) was hit with the loss as he allowed two runs on two hits in 4.1 innings, striking out five and walking three.

Charlie Marcantel was the only Butler hitter to have two hits, also driving in a run.
