Highland Volleyball Picks up KJCCC Win Over KCK on Sophomore Night

October 24

Box Score Every year the Highland volleyball team has had a great group of sophomore and on Wednesday night we were able to recognize a group of eight on Sophomore night for their contributions to the volleyball program.

The Scotties before the sophomore festivities squared off with KCK in a KJCCC contest looking for another win and were able to notch their 27th win of the season beating the Blue Devils in four sets 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20.

Highland opened the night with the first two points of the evening and then took control of the first set pushing the lead to 9-3 and then 17-7 when KCK took timeouts at both points of the first set. The lead grew to 21-7 on a monster Jessica Monroe kill and the Scotties went on to take the first set 25-14. Set two saw the Scotties go on an early 4-0 run to lead 4-1 and continued to hold the lead for a majority of the set but KCK lingered close and despite a pair of blocks by Monroe and a block by Kendra McDonald midway in the set it was the Blue Devils that closed the set strong. KCK put together a late 8-0 run to grab the lead and take set two 21-25.

Looking to respond from the set two loss the Scotties separated themselves from KCK by four points early in the third set and used that lead to keep the Blue Devils at bay in the third set taking it 25-19. Set four was the same as it was back and forth early but once the Scotties captured control they kept it and finished with the 25-20 fourth set win to take the match.

On the night a pair of Scotties moved themselves into the record books individually as Allen with her 16 kills is now fifth in school history in career kills, while Kellyn Lipasek with her 38 assists passed Assistant Coach, Michaela Serrioz for fifth in single season assists in school history. Lipasek added a career high 14 digs on the night for a double-double and tallied three kills.

Monroe had a strong night with 12 kills, four digs and four blocks, while Amber Hildebrand posted her sixth straight double digit dig performance with 16. Nicole Franco recorded 14 digs and seven kills, while Abby Williams notched eight kills and Brianda Diaz tallied 15 digs.

The win moves the Scotties to 27-7 on the season and 6-3 in KJCCC action, while giving Head Coach Jon Bingesser his 135th career win at Highland. The #10 Scotties will now take on NJCAA Division I #7 Indian Hills on Friday, October 25th in the final home game of the season as the Scotties will host them for a 3:00pm match. Highland will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, October 30th on the road for a KJCCC clash with Neosho at 6:30pm.
