Five JCCC basketball starters reach double figures in 90-77 victory at Fort Scott

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Five Cavaliers starters scored in double figures and a strong first half propelled the No. 10-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team to a 90-77 road win over Fort Scott on Wednesday night.

JCCC outscored the Greyhounds 46-35 over the first 20 minutes then cruised the 13-point victory to remain on top of the KJCCC Division II standing with a perfect 6-0 record. Fort Scott fell to 3-3 in conference play and into a three-way tie for third 

Sophomore forward Brandon Mann led with 20 points followed by freshman guard Gavin Harvey and sophomore guard Steven Samuels with 19 each. Freshman forward Tavian Cruse tallied 14 points and freshman guard Joey Robinson finished with 11 points.

Robinson and Samuels were top rebounders with seven each. Cruse and Mann were one back each with six boards. Mann also had five assists. 

Johnson County shot 58 percent from the field and season-best 43 percent from 3-point range. The Greyhounds managed to only connect on 26 percent of the shots beyond the arc. 

Fort Scott had three players post double figures led by Marko Taft with 16 points. 

Johnson County (18-3, 6-0) will host Hesston (9-10, 3-3) on Saturday, February 1 at 4 p.m. The Cavaliers lead the all-time series with the Larks, 54-9 and have won the last 13 meetings.
