February 2

Competing against several fellow Jayhawk Conference teams and other top-flight competition the Highland track and field team continue to see the number of National qualifying performances grow as they competed at the Pittsburg State Invitational.

Another school record captured along with four new National qualifying marks and three-time improvements on National qualifying marks were garnered by Highland in Pittsburg.
Sedrickia Wynn has been as the front of the pace this track season for the Scotties and that continued at the Pittsburg State Invitational as she posted a time of 8.76 in qualifying of the 60-meter hurdles to break her school record and ultimately took fourth in the event (8.89 time in the finals). She also qualified herself for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in the 60-meter dash by sprinting to a time of 7.72 placing 11th.

Kilani Harvey and Ayesha Nelson will be joining Wynn at Nationals in the 60-meter dash as they notched times of 7.79 and 7.83, respectively to finish 19th and 27th overall out of 118 total runners. Nelson also improved her 60 meter hurdles National qualifying time running a 9.08 to take 16th place in the event. While Harvey was .69 seconds off qualifying for Nationals in the 200-meter dash as she posted a time of 25.80 to take 26th.

The Highland men have been led by Jye Gillard's performances thus far this track season and he was once again at the front of the pack leading the way. Gillard improved his National qualifying time in the 400-meter dash posting a time of 48.20 to place seventh in the race. While Ja'Kwan Hale and Clyde King in their first races of the season nearly qualified for Nationals in the 400.
