McCook Community College freshman Cory Wouters has been named the Region IX Player of the Week for Feb. 5-11.
Wouters, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is a pitcher/first baseman/designated hitter. During McCook's season opening doubleheader in Dallas, Texas last weekend, Wouters hit .677 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.
His four hits in six at bats for the season lead the region.
Lamar Community College's Ryan Smith, sophomore, was named Pitcher of the Week picking up a five-inning win against El Paso, allowing four hits, one earned run, three walks and six strikeouts.
