Highland Men's Basketball Overcomes Early Woes to Top Southeast

Highland men's basketball stepped out of Conference play on Monday to host Southeast and play the Storm in a makeup game which was originally schedule for early January. The Scotties picked up the 76-51 win over Southeast after trailing by 14-points in the first half.

After falling behind 14-6 in the first five minutes of the contest the Scotties saw the deficit grow as Southeast put together an 8-9 start from the floor and Highland went scoreless for over two minutes multiple times and trailed 22-8 with 10:37 left in the first half. By halftime the Scotties trailed 36-27 after falling behind by as many as 14-points in the first half.

Highland opened the second half with the first five points and closed the gap drawing to within one-point at 43-41 leading to a Southeast timeout at 15:26 as the Scotties outscored Southeast 14-7 over the first four and half minutes of the second half. Marquise Milton dropped 11 of those 14 points including three three-pointers. Scotties snagged their first lead of the game at 57-56 with 6:51 left in the contest and didn't look back pushing the lead to double figures going on to win by 15 points, 76-51.

Scotties struggled from the floor to start the game but shot 47.1% on the night while winning the rebounding battle 36-29. Highland also recorded 24 assists on 32 made field goals and turned the ball over just 10 times, while forcing 22 Storm turnovers that the Scotties turned into 26 points.

Milton paced a quartet of Scotties in double figures with 22 points, while Trey Twa added 14 points going 7-7 from the floor and added six rebounds. Zyon Smith tallied 11 points on 4-9 shooting and Rashon Johnson chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds. Dylan Vincent dished out 10 assists in the win.

Scotties improve to 18-9 on the season with the win and now get back to Conference action as the Scotties travel to Kansas City, Kansas to play KCK on Wednesday, February 19th at 7:30pm.
