No. 2 JCCC takes down No. 14 Allen 79-62

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team improved to 19-0 on the season after taking down No. 14 Allen Community College Wednesday night in Iola, Kan. It was the Cavaliers fifth win over a ranked team this season and third this month. With the victory JCCC extended its regular season win streak to 52 straight. 

Johnson Count shot 51 percent from the field, while holding the Red Devils to just 32 percent.

Leading the charge was freshman guard Tamia Smith. The former Blue Valley Northwest standout drained 7-of-10 shots including a 3-pointer to finish with a game high 15 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season. 

Sophomore forward Aa'Mya Stacker also posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 boards. 

Freshman guard Heaven Smith knocked down 5-of-6 shots and was 3-of-5 at the line to provide 13 points off the bench and sophomore forward Yar Manyiel contributed 10 points and six rebounds. 

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Aryanna Grassity (9 points, 5 assists), freshman guard Kara Stricklin (7 points, 3 rebounds), freshman guard Jamya McPherson (6 points) sophomore guard Taliyah Scott (5 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists). 

Aaliyah Brown led Allen with 11 points, followed by Yolaine Luthi with 10.

Johnson County returns home to host Labette Community College on Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m.
