
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team remained unbeaten and in a tie for first in the conference standings with Cowley after posting a 3-0 sweep over Fort Scott Community College on Wednesday night at the JCCC Gymnasium.
The Lady Cavaliers opened with a 25-17 victory in the first set and followed with wins of 25-13 and 25-16 to improve to 18-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
Sophomore Tori Valentine led JCCC's hitters with 13 kills, to go along with 16 kills for her seventh double-double of the season. She currently leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with 169 total kills on the season. Sophomores Kennedy Smalley and Beth Hedke followed with eight and six kills respectively. Smalley also produced nine digs to increase her season total to 237, moving her up to fourth overall in the conference standings.
Freshman Taylin Stallbaumer and sophomore Wren VanCleave each posted double digits in assists. Stallbaumer led the way with 29, upping her season total to a league-leading 580 on the year. She has recorded double figures in assists in all 19 matches. She also had nine digs. VanCleave finished with 11, reaching double figures for the seventh time this season.
Defensively, freshman Carlie Martin led JCCC with 17 digs to move her into second place in the conference with 312 on the season. Sophomore Mallory Pruitt tallied 12 digs to post double figures for the first time in her career. She also led the team with three service aces.
The Lady Cavaliers will remain in conference play with then take to the hardwood next Wednesday, October 2 at Coffeyville Community College. They return home to host Avila University JV and the University of Saint Mary JV on Friday, October 4 at 1 and 5 p.m. respectively.
