Highlanders split on day one in Odessa
The McLennan Highlanders opened the two-day stint in Odessa with a 13-0 run-run Broncbusters. Addyson Canfield went five innings in the circle to get the win for the Highlanders.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Lilli Piersons singled and advanced to second on an error. Aynsli Lawson walked, and both runners scored on a double by MJ Nicholson.
The Highlanders exploded for nine runs in the third inning. Ellie Loveless and Mickayla Tosch both singled. Piersons followed with a fielder's choice, putting Tosch out at second. Madison Garcia was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Lawson then doubled to score Loveless and Piersons. Nicholson reached on an error, bringing Garcia in to score, and Tehya Pitts singled to scored Lawson. Pitts stole second, and Ally Thompson singled, scoring Nicholson and Pitts. Trinity Allen followed with a two-run homer. Loveless doubled, Tosch walked and Piersons singled, loading the bases. Garcia then singled to score Loveless.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fourth to round out the scoring. Thompson walked and Allen reached an error. Thompson scored on a ground out by Alyssa Moreno, and Tosch singled to score Allen.
McLennan fell to the Odessa Wranglers 3-2 in the Highlanders' second game of the day. Natalie Klenda took the loss in the circle.
The Highlanders got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth as Thompson double and scored on a double by Allen.
Odessa took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Hadyn Milley singled and scored on Renske Tellekamp's two-run home run.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh. Tosch led off with a triple and scored on another double by Piersons.
The Wranglers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win. Reganied Franka singled. Taryn Blazevich then reached on an error, allowing Franka to score.
