PARSONS, Kan. – The 18th ranked Butler softball program picked up two non-conference wins over the Labette Cardinals on Monday afternoon.
Butler (16-5) won 8-4 in game one before defeating the Cardinals (5-13) 10-2 in a five-inning run rule in game two.
The Grizzlies outhit Labette 11-5 in game one and capped the game off with a four run seventh inning. Eight Grizzlies registered a hit while three Butler pitchers got in on the action. Chloe Odle (W, 6-2) earned the win tossing 5.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three. Addy Ewing and Audry Rumsey each threw with Ewing throwing 0.2 scoreless and Rumsey allowing two runs in the seventh.
Labette plated two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead, but Butler had multi-run innings in the second, third and fourth innings and never looked back. Claire Lopez, Kyrsten Moran and Kyler Demel had multi-RBI efforts for Butler while Ellie Randall (W, 7-1) earned the win throwing 3.0 innings allowing one earned run. Maggie Grant threw the final 2.0 innings without allowing a run on one hit, striking out one.
