
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team fell to the No.2 Johnson County Community College Cavaliers, 85-41 Jan.15 at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mo. The Blue Devils were able to cash in early as they led the Cavaliers by four points after the first quarter, but the lead didn't last long.
Amaya Gallegos was the only Blue Devil to finish in double figures as she shot 7-16 from the field, tallied 14 points and recorded two steals. Zoe Clark had eight points and brought down six rebounds. Capri Garrett had three blocks while bringing down six rebounds and seven points. Ja'Cole Johnson came off the bench and went 2-3 from behind the arc and 2-7 from the floor finishing the night with seven points. The Blue Devils combined for eight total points in the second and third quarter after scoring 16 in the first. In the second and third quarters, Johnson County added 51 points, a 43 point difference compared to KCKCC.
For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 15-51 from the field (29.4%), 3-17 from three-point range (17.6%) and 8-13 the free-throw line (61.5%). The Cavaliers shot 29-51 from the field (56.9%), 3-12 from three-point range (25%) and 24-36 from the free-throw line (66.7%).
The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against Fort Scott Community College at 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at Park University in Parkville, Mo.
