Lakers get win #1 on the season

The Laker baseball team traveled to Kansas for a five-game weekend, first stop was in McPherson, KS to face Central Christian JV. The Lakers scored early and often, leading them to a 12-2 victory. Leading the way for the Lakers was Freshman Johnny Marcos who had 3 hits (1 HR) and 3 RBI's. Freshman Boyd Jones had a homerun with 3 RBI's. Sophomore Elkin Ortiz led the way in walks, earning 3. Freshman Spencer Kober and Sophomore Keyber Delgado also added an RBI a piece. The Lakers had 5 stolen bases on the day. Sophomore Diego Torano got the start on the mound for the Lakers and threw 6 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 5 walks, and 8 strikeouts.

Moving to Fort Scott, KS the lakers faced a very good Fort Scott team. In the first game of the series, the Lakers scored only 1 run off the bat of Freshman Nick Ryun. The Greyhounds held the Lakers to only 1 run despite allowing 6 hits. The Greyhounds took game one 13-1. In game 2 of the series, the Lakers were led by sophomore Beau Dalian, who had 3 hits (2 doubles) and 2 RBI's. Freshman Spencer Kober, Matt Risser, and sophomore Luis Cedeno all added an RBI a piece. Despite the effort at the plate, the Greyhounds put up 16 runs to take game two 16-5. In game 3, the Greyhounds shut down the bats only allowing the Lakers 3 hits. Ryun, Marcos, and Delgado saw a ball get through the greyhound defense. Earning the lone RBI was Elkin Ortiz. The Lakers fall 12-1. In game 4 the Lakers scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning, but were shut down, not scoring another run. The greyhounds allowed only 2 hits (Johnny Marcos & Joel Prpic) and 2 RBI's (Marcos & Luis Cedeno). Sophomore Joel Prpic had 2 walks in the final game of the series. The Lakers fell 19-5 in the final game of the series.

 

The Lakers will be back in action on March 8th in Malvern, AR where they face Arkansas State University- Three Rivers. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
