
The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team swept the Highland Community College Scotties with scores of 8-0 and 14-6. Both games ended early due to the 8-run mercy rule. On the day, Sidney Sullivan recorded eight RBIs, three homeruns and a double.
In the first game, it took the Blue Devils no time at all to get on the board as they scored five runs in the first two innings of the game. Ashton Russell led with a team-high three hits as she had two RBIs and scored twice along with hitting her second homerun on the year. Kylie Vandervoort had one double which brought in two Blue Devils. Sullivan had two home runs, recorded four RBIs and scored twice.
Alyssa Droge went the distance allowing no runs, three hits, no walks and striking out 11 of the 18 Scottie batters she faced.
In game two, Highland scored three runs in the top of the first inning, two runs in the second inning and one run in the third inning. The Blue Devils were able to answer with three runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning and six in the third inning. There were three Blue Devils who recorded three hits each, and they added up to a total of five RBIs. Those three Blue Devils were Cassidy Reno, Vandervoort and Russell. Sullivan led the team off with two hits, four RBI, a double and a home run. Sydney Becker had one hit which ended up being a RBI as she brought in one run and scored once.
There were three Blue Devil pitchers who allowed 11 hits, six runs while striking out five batters. Droge would enter game two in the third inning and finish the game allowing just one run from five Scottie hits. She also struck out four of the 16 batters that she faced.
