Women’s Soccer: Red Devils Shutout Raiders

The Central Community College women's soccer team lost at Allen County (Kan.) Community College, 2-0, on Saturday.

The scoreboard was quiet until two minutes to play in the first half when Allen County's Dorothy Usher scored an unassisted goal on a penalty kick to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. The Raiders were unable to match the goal and the score remained 1-0 at the half.

Like the first half, second-half scoring was hard to come by as Allen County's second goal was scored in the 88th minute. Usher was the scorer with Samantha Burks assisting for the 2-0 lead, which turned out to be the final score.

"The girls played hard physically, but they made too many mental errors and that cost us," said CCC head coach Jamie Bennett. "We gave up a penalty late in the first half and took some chances late to try to get the equalizer, but they ended up getting their second goal on a breakaway."

The loss gives CCC an 0-2-1 mark.

Up next, the Raiders remain on the road for a Saturday contest with at Pratt (Kan.) Community College. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CCC was scheduled to host Southeast Community College on Wednesday, but the game has been postponed. A make-up date has not been announced.
