For the fourth straight year the Highland men's basketball team has worked their way to the Region VI Tournament Semifinals this year earning that spot after a first round 73-53 win over Hesston.
Scotties initiated the scoring on the night and grew the lead out throughout the first half going up by double figures at 25-15 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. The lead didn't last as the Scotties saw Hesston draw within one-point with 4:05 left in the first half, but Highland finished the first half outscoring Hesston 10-5 headed into halftime as the Scotties led 45-37.
Lead continued to grow in the second half for the Scotties as Highland pushed the lead to as high as 26 going on to claim the 73-53 win over Hesston in the first round of the Region VI Tournament.
Scotties shot 46% from the floor in the contest with 16 assists on 29 made field goals and took care of the ball committing only seven turnovers. Hesston shot just 33.3% in the contest.
Marquise Milton paced Highland with 22 points on 9-13 shooting including 4-5 from three-point range, while
Jaron Flowers chipped in 13 points of the bench on 5-10 shooting.
Rashon Johnson notched another double-double finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The win moves Highland to 20-10 on the season giving the Scotties 20+ wins now four straight seasons, while also moving the Scotties into the Region VI Semifinals for the fourth straight year. Scotties will take on Johnson County on Tuesday, March 3
rd at 7:00pm in the Region VI Semifinals on the road in Overland Park, Kansas.
