CHANUTE, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team traveled to Chanute, Kansas to begin a series with Neosho County Community College. The Hawks fell in Game 1 by a final score of 7-1 and dropped Game 2 by a final score of 13-4.
Northeast (1-5) was led by Nixon Snyder (Omaha, Neb.) in Game 1 as the freshman powered a home run and a double in the first contest of the day to score the only run of the matchup for the Hawks. Limiting runs was an issue for Northeast on the day, but Connor Cholez (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) put together a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts during his first appearance in a Hawks uniform.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead at the conclusion of the first inning in Game 2 in what proved to be a tough hurdle to overcome for Northeast. Derek Woolwine (Boulder, Colo.) came through for the Hawks in the middle of the order with three hits and two RBIs as Northeast will now attempt to even the series in another doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on the showdowns today:
"We didn't compete today," Clapp said. "When you are down 8-0 after one inning it takes what we want to do offensively out of the game. We took too many fastballs offensively to compete. I thought we pitched better than the score indicated in Game 1, but we didn't put anything together at the plate. Guys need to understand what we work on and practice needs to be taken into a game. We need to win the games inside of the game."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will finish their series with Neosho County Community College in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. tomorrow in Chanute, Kansas.
