For the second time in a six day span the Highland women's basketball team faced off with Metropolitan Community College and the outcome was the same as the first a Scottie win this time at home and by a wider margin the first go around.
Scotties picked up the 86-44 win on Thursday night and remain unbeaten on the season moving to 12-0 and stretched their home win streak to 46-striaght games in the process.
Both teams started out of the gates slowly as the Scotties held a just a 10-4 lead for a good portion of the first quarter with the Wolves of MCC going scoreless in the quarter for a five-plus minute span ultimately leading to a 18-9 Highland lead at the end of the quarter. That lead continued to grow in the second stanza as the Scotties moved the lead to double figures and kept it there capping the first half on a 10-0 run including a deep three-pointer by
Tiana Gipson at the horn to end the half with Highland leading 40-21.
Second half wasn't much different as the Scotties continued to stymie MCC and find ways to add to the lead, while the Highland did take care of the ball better in the second half as they struggled with turnovers in the first half. Highland capped the game with a 17-6 fourth quarter and tallied the 86-44 win.
For the seventh time this season Highland shot over 50% from the floor draining 31 shots to shot 50.8% from the field, while out rebounding MCC 53-28.
Gipson recorded her 11
th career 20+ point performance finishing with 27 points while adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Khaliah Hines posted a career best 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, along with four assists.
Riana Lawson finished with nine points and five rebounds, while
Kate Ogle,
Jasmine Elder and
Belinda Ames each tallied seven points. Ogle also grabbed 10 rebounds in the contest.
The win pushes the Scotties to 12-0 on the season with only one game remaining before the holiday break as Highland will travel to St. Louis, Missouri to play Missouri Baptist University JV at 1:00pm.
