
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Freshman guard Gavin Harvey drained a shot with just two seconds remaining to lift No. 10 Johnson County past Highland 58-56, at Allen Field House in Highland, Kan., Thursday night, and remain unbeaten in conference play at 10-0.
Harvey finished with 13 points on the night, connecting on 5-of-13 shot with a 3-pointer, and two free throws. He also had a team-high five assists.
The Cavaliers welcomed forward Brandon Mann back in the lineup after missing the past two games. The sophomore from Tulsa led all players with 19 points, making 7-of-11 shots with a 3-pointer and four free throws.
Sophomore forward Traeger Rader provided 10 points and five boards off the bench, and freshman forward Tavian Cruse was the Cavaliers' top rebounder with 13.
Highland had two players post double digits led by Rashad Kee with 15, followed by Adriel Smith with 11. Justin Burns had a monster night on the glass, hauling down 22 total rebounds, the third-most recorded by an opponent in program history.
Johnson County (22-3/10-0) has a two-game edge in the KJCCC Division II standings with four games to play. They will look to pull closer to clinching the title on Saturday afternoon when the host Allen Community College (11-12/6-4) at 4 p.m. The Red Devils are led by Patrick Nee who played for the Cavaliers during the 1998-99 season.
