The 2020 Indoor track season has been filled with phenomenal performances week in and week out and of course the Region VI/KJCCC Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State University was no different and perhaps overall the best meet this season.
Four school records fell at the meet, three new National qualifying marks were hit giving the Scotties 21 National qualifying marks, while a Region title was won, six KJCCC East titles were one and 15 All-Conference honors were earned with 19 total performers earning All-Conference. On top of all the top finishes the Scotties had 38 season best marks at Regionals.
The men posted a team finish of sixth in the Region, while the women finished seventh in the Region.
No record was safe at Regionals for the Highland men in the relay events as the 4x400, 4x800 and Distance Medley relay teams all broke the Indoor school record. The 4x800 meter relay team of
Joshua Camp,
Deiondre Williams,
Jean Dieuvil and
Mookie Rolle posted a time of 7:57.24 to win the Region VI title, KJCCC East title and set the school record by nearly four seconds. Rolle also competed on the 4x400 meter relay team alongside
Jye Gillard,
Alexander Johnson and
Ja'Kwan Hale and posted a time of 3:15.03 to better the team's National qualifying mark while setting the school record and finishing fifth in the Region and third in KJCCC East. The quartet of Camp, Gillard, Williams and Cisneros notched a time of 10:32.06 to finish second at Regionals, win the KJCCC East title and set the school record, while also qualifying for Nationals.
The other record to fall already belonged to the
Sedrickia Wynn but she topped her best mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.75 in the prelims going on to finish fourth in the Region and win the KJCCC East title. While,
Ayesha Nelson in the same event improved her National qualifying time with a time of 8.93 in the prelims and went on to finish sixth in the Region and second in KJCCC East.
Both
Ja'Kwan Hale and the women's 4x400 meter relay earned spots at Nationals with their performances. A time of 48.97 by Hale in the 400 meter dash earned him a trip to Nationals while the quartet of
Octavia Wright,
Ayesha Nelson,
Kilani Harvey and
Sedrickia Wynn recorded a time of 4:02.49 qualifying for Nationals, finishing third in the Region and second in the KJCCC East.
Jye Gillard won the KJCCC East title in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.05 improving his National qualifying time and took second in the Region, while
Jessica Monroe with a leap of 5'03.25 won the KJCCC East title and took second in the Region.
Arlet Navarro also won a KJCCC East title finishing fifth in the Region in the triple jump with a leap of 35'00.25.
Several other Scotties earned top eight Region finishes along with third place in the KJCCC East.
Octavia Wright finished one second off National qualifying time in the women's 600 meter run (1:40.59) and took sixth in the Region, while
Mookie Rolle placed seventh in the men's 600 meter run (1:21.78).
Jean Dieuvil raced to sixth place in the men's 800 meter run (1:58.90), while
Nick Cisneros took eighth in the men's 1000 meter run (2:37.37) also earning third in the KJCCC East.
Evelin Santaclara took third in the KJCCC East and fifth in the Region in the women's one mile run (5:39.89), while
Vicente Correia placed eighth in the Region and third in KJCCC East in the men's one mile run (4:33.40). Also on the track the team of
Leah Wagner,
Diamond Sullivan, Wright and Santaclara posted a time of 13:22.44 to take third in the Region & KJCCC East in the Distance Medley relay.
Dionte Alston took seventh in the Region and third in KJCCC East in the long jump (23'00), while
Dahndray Holmes placed fifth in the Region in the triple jump (46'11).
Ja'Kwan Hale posted a seventh place finish in the Region and third in KJCCC East in the high jump (6'04.75).
Scotties will now compete in the NJCAA Indoor National Championships to wrap up the Indoor season on March 6

th in Lynchburg, Virginia at Liberty University.
