Highland Volleyball Captures Comeback Win Over Cowley On the Road

Box Score Looking to finish off the regular season with momentum and playing their best volleyball the #13 Highland volleyball team looked for a big win on the road facing off with #4 Cowley on Friday night and the Scotties got that big win. 

After losing the first two sets on the night the Scotties battled back and won the next three sets to capture the match 3-2 (20-25, 16-25, 27-25, 25-18, 15-12). 

Scotties saw Cowley take early control of the first set and while Highland would fight back multiple times drawing with a pair of points but were unable to ever capture the lead as the Tigers took the first set 20-25. A 4-1 start to the second set setup the Scotties nice early by Cowley answered with a run and gained control of the set and finished it strong going up 2-0 in the matchup with a 16-25 second set. 

The third set was ultra-tight from wire to wire with multiple ties including at 24-24 meaning extra points would be needed to decide the set and then the Scotties saw Nicole Franco keep them alive in the set, while Jessica Monroe tallied the next point on a kill and the Scotties got one more for the 27-25 third set. 

Another solid start to a set helped set up the Scotties in the fourth set and Highland took advantage of Cowley mistakes grabbing set four 25-18 getting a late ace by Kellyn Lipasek

The fifth set saw a pair of early Cajia Allen kills and the Scotties led 8-5 when the teams switch sides of the court and then fended off a push by Cowley to take the fifth set 15-12 and complete the comeback for the five set win. 

A pair of double-doubles by Allen and Franco paced the Scotties on the night as Allen posted 15 kills and 16 digs and Franco notched 11 kills and 15 digs. Monroe and Abby Williams each recorded 13 kills on the night with Monroe hitting .458 on the evening. Amber Hildebrand anchored the libero spot and notched 16 digs, while Lipasek tallied 47 assists and added nine digs. 

Scotties with the win improved to 26-7 on the season and 5-3 in KJCCC action. Three games remain in the regular season Highland with the next contest a KJCCC showdown with KCKCC on Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:30pm at home. The evening will be sophomore night for the Scotties as Highland will recognize their seven sophomores.
