Taiveyhon Mason scored a career high 25 points in Highland's 91-81 victory over Hesston College on Saturday afternoon.
Highland attacked the Larks early jumping out to an 11-point lead just eight minutes into the ball game. They were able to stretch that lead to 19 points with six minutes to play in the first half after
Dylan Owen knocked down a three pointer. A
Leland Harvey dunk and Mason layup would finish the first half with a 15-point Highland lead, 45-30.
Highland took control in the second half after big baskets from
Holden Redparth,
Dylan Owen and
Alonzo Williams stretching the lead to 23-points with 8:41 left in the game.
A Cal Hartley three-pointer would get momentum shifted in favor of the Larks as they started to chip away at the Scottie lead. The Larks climbed within seven points with :32 seconds left to play but were unable to get any closer as Highland knocked down free throws late to seal the victory 91-81.
Taiveyhon Mason led the way offensively for Highland scoring a career high 25 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Alonzo Williams also had a productive afternoon finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Holden Redparth finished with 15 points and nine rebounds while
DJ Doakes tied his career high in points with 14.
Highland out-rebounded the Larks 40-30 and got eight steals off 13 Hesston turnovers on the day.
Highland is 21-7 overall, 6-2 in Region VI and 4-2 in KJCCC play. They will host Kansas City Kansas on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:30pm for Sophomore Night. They will finish regular season play on Saturday, February 24
th as they travel to Fort Scott CC.
