Highland Men's Basketball Tops Quakerdale Prep at Scottie Classic

The annual Scottie Classic saw the #2 Highland men's basketball team pick up another win while cancelling their other scheduled game.

Scotties topped Quakerdale Prep Academy 83-55 on Friday and were scheduled for a contest with Ottawa JV on Saturday but it was cancelled. Johnson County was also in action at the Scottie Classic and topped Ottawa JV 92-53 and Quakerdale Prep Academy 81-64.

It was a slow start to the contest for both the Scotties and Eagles of Quakerdale but the Highland pushed the lead to double figures at the 22-12 with 5:51 left in the first half and carried a 35-26 lead into halftime. Both teams struggled from the field in the first half shooting 37% for the Scotties and 29% for the Eagles as Highland had a pair of two and half minutes scoreless stretches and Quakerdale went scoreless for a six and half minute stretch in the first half.

Second half the Highland grew the lead out and took more firm control of the contest fending off Quakerdale and pushing the lead to 20+ points. Scotties used an efficient performance from the field in the second half of shooting 50% to land the 83-55 win over Quakerdale.

In the contest the Scotties shot 42.7% from the field in the game and won the rebounding battle 55-33, while taking care of the ball with only seven turnovers.

A quartet of double figure scorers paced the Scotties as Marquise Milton had double figures for the fifth time in six games this season posting 14 points on 7-14 shooting, while Rashon Johnson who was scoreless in the first half finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Aguek Deng registered his first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds and Dylan Vincent chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.

The win moves the Scotties to 6-0 on the season and stretches their win home win streak to 23-straight games. Highland now turns their attention to their first true road matchup of the season as they travel to Boone, Iowa on Tuesday, November 19th for a 7:30pm tip against #19 DMACC.
