
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the second time in three nights, the No. 5-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team posted a in the final seconds of the game.
On Monday, February 14, forward Xavier Kahube tipped in a game-winner with a second left to give JCCC a 63-61 win over Kansas City Kansas. He was both the leading scorer and rebounder with 15 and nine respectively.
On Wednesday night, February 16, guard Tymer Jackson nailed a 3-pointer between the 3-point line and half court line with a second left for a 71-70 comeback victory over Highland (watch video highlight). The bucket gave Jackson a game-high 29 points, which matches his third highest game total of the season.
The Olathe North product was 11-of-23 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also had five rebounds and two steals. Jackson leads the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference in scoring with an average of 18.2 per game.
Forward Jaland Whitehead posted hist 15 double-double of the season with 10 points and13 boards. It was his 28th double-double of his career at JCCC, the most by any player in program history.
Zion Buckner also added 10 points in the victory. He hit 4-of-6 shots, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
Kahube and Seth Chargois each contributed six points.
Marquise Milton led Highland with 19 points.
Johnson County (25-1/10-1) has three games remaining in the regular season, including a home-and-home series with Allen Community College. The Devils are 21-5 overall and tied with the Cavaliers for first in the conference standings at 10-1. JCCC travels to Neosho County (11-13/3-8) on Saturday, February 19, followed by road trip to Allen on Monday, February 21. JCCC will host the Red Devils on Thursday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m.
