JCCC dominates Labette 97-15 to improve to 20-0 on the season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team turned in a dominating performance Saturday afternoon, beating Labette 97-15 at JCCC Gymnasium. The 82-point difference marked the largest in the 64 career games played against the Cardinals, and ranks as the sixth largest difference in program history. Additionally, the 15 points surrendered ranks as the third fewest ever allowed. 

With the victory, the Cavaliers extended their home court win streak to 83 straight and their regular season win streak to 53. 

Four JCCC players scored in double-digit figures with freshman guard Layla Scott posting a game-high 24 points while playing only 17 minutes. Scott drained 8-of-15 shots including seven 3-point baskets to up her conference leading total to 71 made 3-pointers. That total also ranks her third in NJCAA Division II. 

Freshman guard Kara Stricklin established a new season-high with 21 points, knocking down five treys and 7-of-12 shots overall. 

Freshman guard Tamia Smith and sophomore forward Yar Manyiel each recorded a double-double. Smith finished with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, and Manyiel tallied 12 points and 11 boards. 

Sophomore point guard Taliyah Scott dished out 11 assists to go along with six rebounds and six points, and sophomore guard Maizen Williams contributed nine points and four steals off the bench. 

Aysis Gartmond led the Cardinals with 10 of her team's 15 points.

Johnson County (20-0, 5-0) travel to Fort Scott (9-9, 2-2) on Wednesday to take on the Greyhounds in a conference tilt, then return home to host Saint Mary JV on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
