The Central Community College men's soccer team defeated Hesston College, 3-1, on Wednesday evening.
The Raiders got the scoring started early with a quick goal by Jaime Zani assisted by Joseba Zabala within the first five minutes of the match for a 1-0 lead. After the early goal, the game turned into a defensive standstill, until the final 10 minutes of the match. That's when the Raiders scored a pair of goals, first from Donovan Williams (assisted by Rodrigo Silva), followed by Mayson Victor (assisted by Antonio Merola). Hesston's Alex Radu save his team from a shutout as he scored Lark's lone goal in the final minute of the match to make the final score 3-1.
"We knew they would come out strong, but I was proud of how shut that down and maintained our composure," CCC head coach Luis Pulido said. "We created numerous scoring chances and capitalized on them, ultimately securing a good team win.
The Raiders are 5-4-1 and will host Pratt (Kan.) Community College on Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Raider Field.
