
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball team took down the Allen Community College Red Devils Oct. 9 at Allen Community College in Iola, Kan. The Blue Devils 2023 Season came to an end on Nov. 1, 2023 in the first round of the Plains A District Tournament losing to Allen. This was the first time the Blue Devils saw the Red Devils since the season ending loss. In the four sets that took place in the most recent rematch, every set was won by exactly two points.
The Blue Devils took down the Red Devils in four sets with scores of 25-23, 25-23, 24-26 and 25-23. Mercedez Brown shined bright as she had 18 kills in her 68 total attempts. That ties her second highest amount of kills this season in a single game. Veronica "Ash" Rolando led the team with 32 assists and added one service ace to bring her season total to 427. Briazia Osborne added 17 assists which puts her at 278 on the season. Alejandra Aponte had 30 digs and Ava Rann was just behind her with 22. Geme Ajekwu was a star defensively with five block assists, that makes it back to back matches that she recorded five block assists. Coming into the matchup against the Blue Devils, the Red Devils had only lost to Cowley and Johnson County in conference play. Both of those teams have a combined record of 44-1 this season.
The next match for the Blue Devils volleyball team is against Independence Community College at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 for Sophomore Night at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.
