Looking to bounce back from a doubleheader with Butler on Thursday, Highland baseball traveled to El Dorado to wrap up the four-game series with the Grizzles with a doubleheader on Saturday.
While the Scotties offense was able to find its way more effectively than on Thursday it was Butler's offense that proved to be too much for Highland as the Scotties fell 14-4 in five innings and 14-4 in eight innings. The losses send the Scotties to 6-6 on the season.
Game 1 (at Butler) – Butler won 14-4 (5 innings)
Scotties started the day strong as the first three batters of the game reached base safely with a single, hit by pitch and then RBI single by
Nick Schifftner to give Highland the 1-0 lead. Butler countered in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs but the Scotties were not rattled responding in the top of the second as
Jason Dudzik led the inning off with a single, followed by a double by
Alejandro Pina and then a groundout and sacrifice fly brought in two runs and Highland led 3-2 entering the bottom of the second.
Butler's offense had an outburst of seven runs in the bottom of the second while adding three in the third and one more in the fourth and fifth to take the game as the Scotties managed just one more run in the fourth coming on a solo home run by
Alejandro Torres. Scotties went on to fall 14-4 in five innings.
Seven different Scotties had a hit in the loss with Torres finishing 1-2 with a home run, two RBI and run scored.
Wikander Gutierrez got the start taking the loss in one and two-third innings while
Austin Gottula tossed three innings of action.
Game 2 (at Butler) – Butler won 14-4 (8 innings) Â
Game two saw Butler jump on the lead early with a run in the bottom of the first but the Scotties answered with the home run ball as
Alejandro Pina blasted a solo home run in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1. Butler continued to score in the bottom of the second and third innings plating three runs in each frame along with seven more over the course of the game. Scotties offense tried to hang in the contest blast two more home runs a two-run homer by
Jaeden Rodriguez and solo home run by
Jason Dudzik but ultimately fell 14-4 in eight innings.
Three of the Scotties four hits were home runs in the contest, while on the mound
Jacob Gajic tossed five innings as the starter taking the loss.
Bryan Rollin hurled two innings of relief and
Max Milligan tossed two-thirds of an inning.
The season is set to continue for the Scotties with first official home games of the year and Conference matchups. Highland is set to host North Central Missouri on Tuesday, March 3
rd at 2:00pm followed by the first KJCCC series of the season as Scotties will take on Coffeyville at home Thursday, March 5
th and then travel to Coffeyville on Saturday, March 7
th.
