
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (13-6, 1-1) fell to the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers (18-0, 2-0), 66-52 Jan. 17 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley. KCKCC led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter due to the dominate play of Jada Johnson and Kaylyn Rogers who combined for 14 points.
Johnson continues to put up points for the Blue Devils, finishing with 23 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one block. Victoria Jones led the team with four assists while tallying 13 points, three steals and two rebounds. Six out of the seven points Rogers finished with occurred in the first quarter. She also brought down seven rebounds, two steals and one assist. Symiah Bradley got seven rebounds and seven points with two steals and an assist. Bennett Peck converted on one three pointer and finished with three points and an assist. The only point that the bench scored came from an Alexis Dukes free throw in the fourth quarter.
The Cavaliers were led by Saige Grampsas who finished the night with 17 points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist. Amani Henry had a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds with two blocks and a steal. Maizen Williams had nine points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Karlee Ellick came off the bench and scored eight points, five rebounds and a block.
For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 34.5 percent from the field (19-55), 27.8 percent from three-point range (5-18) and 50 percent from the free-throw line (9-18). The Cavaliers shot 43.9 percent from the field (25-57), 33.3 percent from three-point range (5-15) and 64.7 percent from the free-throw line (11-17).
The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Highland Community College Scotties at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 in Highland, Kan.
