OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The NIACC softball team dropped a pair of one-run contests Thursday on the Johnson County CC campus.
No. 10 (NJCAA Division II) Johnson County CC outcored NIACC 12-11 and Iowa Western scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to nip the Trojans 7-6.
In the game against host Johnson County CC, NIACC sophomore leadhoff hitter Katy Olive was 4 for 5, including a home run and double, with three RBIs. Freshman Izzy Sloan was 3 for 4, including a solo home run.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Madisyn Bauer was 2 for 4 and freshman Emily Rigdon hit a grand slam.
The home runs by Sloan and Rigdon were the first of their collegiate careers.
NIACC matched its season-high hits in a game with 13.
In the game against Iowa Western, NIACC collected four extra base hits, including two doubles from Emily Jones and a home run from Madisyn Kelley.
Olive stole a total of four bases in the two games on Thursday. Olive now has 92 career stolen bases, which is tops in school history. Morgan Thesing Ritter (2017-18) now ranks second with 86 career stolen bases.
NIACC (9-9) returns to action Saturday and Sunday with a four-game series against Kansas City CC with doubleheaders each day at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
