Cavaliers blowout State Fair 10-1 as offense explodes

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After a tough 4-2 loss on Friday night to No. 1-ranekd and defending national champion Iowa Lakes, the No. 13-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer corrected the course and got back on the winning track in a big way. 

The Cavaliers took to the pitch and put past three goals past State Fair in the first half on their way to a 10-1 blowout for their third win of the season. Eight different players scored a goal and a total of 14 different players scored a point in the victory. . It is the first time since October 14, 2008 that JCCC has scored at 10 goals in a match. 

It did not take long for the Cavaliers to break through. Sophomore midfield Dominic Zuniga scored in the 13th minute, his third on the season, off a feed from freshman midfielder Kael Drummond

Four minutes later sophomore forward Caleb Brueckner made it 2-nil with the assist going to sophomore midfielder/defender Christian Martinez. Bruckner's goal proved to be the game winner. 

JCCC made it 3-0 when freshman defender Jaden Farrimond found sophomore forward Monty Almaliky in the 28th minute. 

Johnson County came out in the second half blew the match open with seven goals. Freshman forward Tanner Poirer got the scoring train rolling with his first collegiate goal in the 48th minute. Freshman forward Phillip Mutantika was credited with the assist.

Bruckner added a second goal off a feed from freshman forward Marco Hernandez in the 52nd minute. He leads the team and the D-II Kansas Jayhawk Conference with five goals on the season. 

In the 57th minute Poirier found the back of the net with an unassisted score to notch in his second of the game and season.

Mutantika put the Cavaliers up 7-0 off a feed from freshman midfielder David Hernandez in the 63rd minute.

State Fair finally got on the board in the 76th minute of a penalty kick goal by Ethan Phillips. 

Johnson County added three more scores in the final 10 minutes. Freshman forward Zach Mall scored off an assist from sophomore defender Corbin Newell at the 80:34 mark, and two minutes later Mall found freshman forward Ben Points for his first goal to make it 9-1. JCCC closed out the scoring in the 87th minute when Points fed sophomore midfielder Cade Gassman with his first career goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brody Macoubrie earned the victory, saving three of the four shots he faced. 

Johnson County will look to improve to 4-1-1 when they travel to Columbus, Nebraska to face Central Community College on Saturday, September 7th.
