
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County men's basketball team took down Labette 77-72 on Saturday afternoon to move into a tie with Kansas City Kansas for first place in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II standings.
The Cavaliers (18-3, 4-1) shot 55 percent from the field draining 29-of-50 shots, including eight 3-pointers, and made 11-of-13 free throw attempts.
Freshman forward Brandon Mann led all scorers with 20 points, knocking down 8-of-11 shots and all four free throw attempts.
Sophomore guards Massi Malterer and Jordan Nichols also played key roles for the Cavaliers. Malterer poured in 19 points Nichols drained four 3-point backets to finish with 12 points. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
Freshman forward Donald Bangham, Jr., added eight points and sophomore forward Traymond Willis-Shaw scored seven points off the bench.
Johnson County will look to post its fifth straight win on Wednesday, January 31, when they host Hesston (14-5, 3-2) at 7:30 p.m.
