MCC Volleyball Team Shines at Tiger Invite, Goes 3-1

The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team hosted the Tiger Invite this past weekend, showcasing impressive play and securing three victories in four matches.

After a tough 3-0 loss to Highland Community College in their opening match, the Tigers regrouped and dominated the competition. Genesis Melenciano Carela led the team in attacks in all four matches, while Callie Swanson excelled in digs. 

In their second match against St. Louis Community College, the Tigers fought back from a set down to win in four sets. Melenciano Carela once again led the team in attacks (38), while Swanson continued her strong defensive performance with 23 digs.

MCC then swept Olive-Harvey College in three sets, with Melenciano Carela (22 attacks) and Swanson (11 digs) continuing their dominant performances.

The Tigers concluded the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Fort Scott Community College. Melenciano Carela continued to lead the Tigers in attacks with 38 and Yafriel Payano Pichardo followed closely behind with 30 attacks and added 19 digs. Swanson led the MCC in digs with 23.

The Tigers will look to build on their success as they host Iowa Lakes Community College on Wednesday, September 11th at 7 pm.
