JCCC women’s soccer extends record shutout streak to nine straight matches

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team extended its consecutive shutout record to nine straight matches with by blanking Highland Community College 7-0 Sunday afternoon.  The last goal given up by the Lady Cavaliers was at 77:33 in the second half of 2-2 tie at Phoenix College on August 22, a span of 822 minutes, 27 seconds. 

Sophomore forward Maya Wallace got the scoring started in the fourth minute off a feed from freshman defender Carson Sloan. It was Wallace team's leading eighth goal of the season and first assist for Sloan.

Sophomore forward Jenna Knight put the Lady Cavaliers up 2-nil in the 12th minute with the assist going to freshman midfielder Lily Marshall.  Nine minutes later Marshall fed freshman defender Riggs Kuhn for her third score of the season. 

Sophomore forward Karsen Koehler netted her sixth goal of the season just before the half ended with sophomore defender Caydee Towle picking up her third assists of the year. 

Johnson County added three more goals in the second half, the first off the foot of sophomore midfielder Samantha Jones with the assist from freshman midfielder Carmen Duarte

In the 81st minute freshman Jill Lenherr made it 6-0 with her sixth score this year. Sophomore midfielder Brenley Cunnigham picked up her third assist this season. 

Freshman defender Samantha Pond closed out the scoring in the final minute. It was her second goal on the season. Sophomore defender Sophie Abbott was credited with the assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddox Fergus earned the shutout victory, her third of the season and 10th of her career. 

Johnson County has two matches on tap this week, both at home. They host Central Community College on Wednesday, October 2 at 4 p.m., and Neosho County Community College on Saturday, October 5 at 5 p.m.
