Highland Women Cap Regular Season With Win Over Fort Scott

Highland women's basketball team capped the regular season by controlling Fort Scott on the road and claimed the 121-55 win.

The Scotties win moves them to 21-3 on the season and 7-3 finish in KJCCC play giving Highland a second place finish in the Conference.

Scotties set the tone in the first quarter taking control and led 28-15 at the end of the first quarter and continued to expand the lead with a 34-10 second quarter. After a relatively even third quarter of play the Highland capped the game with a 35-9 fourth quarter to cruise to the 121-55 win.

Highland shot a season best 61.3% from the floor hitting 49 of 80 shots in the contest including a season high 20 made three-pointers in the game with six different players each hitting three three-pointers. Fort Scott was held to just 30.6% shooting in the contest and had 21 turnovers. Scotties also had 22 assists, 16 steals and 11 blocks.

Tiana Gipson paced Highland with 23 points on 9-16 shooting, while Armani Turner tallied 21 points adding four rebounds and three steals. Riana Lawson went 7-8 from the floor and 5-5 from three-point range to post 19 points off the bench, while Erin Randle and Marina Paes each added 12 points. For Paes it's her career high and first double figure performance. Charlay Conway chipped in 11 points and Randle added six rebounds, five steals and seven blocks to her 12 points.

Highland finished tied with Johnson County for the two seed in the Region and won the coin toss to earn the two seed and first round bye. Scotties now await the winner of Fort Scott versus Johnson County to play in the Region VI Semifinals on Tuesday, March 3rd in Highland.
