Lady Conqs Use Strong Third Quarter to Secure Coveted Road Win

Head Coach Zach Loll knows that road wins in the vaunted Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference are hard to come by. The Lady Conquistadors found that out last night in a tightly contested matchup with the Lady Panthers from Neosho County Community College.

The Lady Conqs led the entirety of the game and got up by as many as 11 points in the first half only to see it drop to three after freshman Keimora Banks took a rebound coast to coast for a layup at the sound of intermission.

The Lady Conquistadors came out aggressive at the start of the second half with a monstrous third quarter of 23-11. After the Lady Conqs' lead got up to 16 with 98 seconds to play in the third, the Neosho Lady Panthers entered the fourth quarter ready to make their push.

A barrage of late threes by Neosho coupled with several missed free throws down the stretch by the Lady Conquistadors caused their lead to dwindle. However, freshman Keimora Banks had several key defensive plays in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Conqs hold onto the lead.

"A win is a win in this league," said head coach Zach Loll. "I'm proud of our girls for staying the course and learning how to win a close game."

Despite the fluctuation in score, especially in the second half, the Lady Conqs seemed in control the entirety of the game and found a way to hold on to a win late.

The Lady Conqs were led by Keimora Banks' game high of 20 points, three assists, and three steals. Sophomore Emery Maze came up with some big plays on her way to 14 points and six rebounds. Freshman Celebria Peacock added 13 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Ashley Hopkins chipped in eight points and three rebounds off the bench.

The three-point line was the sweet spot for the Neosho Lady Panthers as they were led by three players in double figures. Tanay Williams poured in 17 points including five triples and eight rebounds off the bench. Mike'Ya House added 15 points (2-4 3pt) and Briona Jensen scored 11 points (3-10 3pt) to go with her 12 rebounds. All in all, the Lady Panthers canned 14 triples as they tried to protect their home court.

The Lady Conquistadors are back in action at home against the defending Region VI champion, Butler Community College, on Saturday, January 30th. The conference double-header will begin with the women's game tipping off at 1:00 pm CST, with the men's immediately following. Though no fans will be in attendance, a live stream link will be available.
