
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball team swept Madison Community College and Hawkeye Community College Aug. 24 at the Opening Weekend Tournament (OWT) in Rockford, Ill.
In the first match, the Blue Devils took all three sets against the No.21 team in the nation with set scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-22. Tatianna Murray was the only Blue Devil to record double digit kills with 10 from her 16 total attempts. Veronica Rolando and Briazia Osborne led the team with 28 total assists while Mercedez Brown had 15 digs, second most in her career. Geme Ajekwu led the team with three blocks. There were three players who finished with 10.5 points - Mayah Pridgett, Murray and Brown.
In the second match, the Blue Devils won all three sets 25-22, 25-14 and 25-14. Both Brown and Murray had team high seven kills. Osborne led the team with 12 assists and both Alejandra Aponte and Brown finished with 12 digs. Pridgett and Nykeriah Allen recorded three block assists on the defensive side, and Brown led the team with 13 points.
The next match for the Blue Devil volleyball team is the conference opener against the No.3 Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at JCCC in Overland Park, Kan.
