After playing limited minutes on Friday due to foul trouble,
Mariane De Caravalho took advantage of her time on the court Saturday posting a double-double scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and six steals and leading Highland to a 107-71 victory over Southeast Community College and their 15
th straight win on the season.
The Scotties jumped all over the Storm in the first quarter outscoring them 31-14. They continued to dominate throughout the second and went into the half with a comfortable 65-31 lead.
Hot shooting in the third quarter from the Storm helped them chip away at the Scottie lead but only by four points, Highland led 88-58 after three quarters of play.
Highland would win the fourth quarter and clear the radar as they defeated the Storm 107-71.
With her 29 point and 13 rebound performance,
Mariane De Caravalho now has scored in double figures in 14 of her 15 games played and has five double-doubles. Four other Scotties scored in double figures on the night;
Berniezha Tidwell finished with 14 points, six assists and three steals while Kamryn Lemon and
Maria Alcantara both scored 13 points each.
Sydney Brinlee was the other Scotties in double figures with 12 points.
The Highland defense forced 39 Southeast turnovers and had 22 steals in the game. They have now forced 427 turnovers this season averaging 28.5 a game. They have 288 total steals this season through 15 games for an average of 19.2 a game.
Even with turnover trouble, the Storm scored 71-points on the Scotties, the most of any team this season. They did so by shooting 55% from the floor and 60% from three-point land.
Highland will play their final game in the 2017 calendar year at home on Saturday, December 16 at 2:00pm, where they will host the Lions of Missouri Southern State University.
