Blue Devils Volleyball Pulls Off Reverse Sweep Against Top 20 Team

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball team took down both the Fort Scott Greyhounds and the No.19 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Norse Oct. 4 at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. The Blue Devils are now 5-1 in conference play and 15-5 overall.

In the first match, the Blue Devils took down Fort Scott in three sets with scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-16. Ginevra Girardo set a season high eight kills on her 13 total attempts. Nykeriah Allen also recorded eight kills from her 14 total attempts. Veronica "Ash" Rolando had 25 assists and Briazia Osborne had nine.

In the second match, the Blue Devils won in five sets against No.19 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M with scores of 21-25,17-25, 19-25, 20-25 and 15-7. The Norse took the first two sets, but the Blue Devils were able to win the final three sets to take the match. This is the second time this season that the volleyball team has recorded a reverse sweep. Mercedez Brown and Allen combined for 25 of the 50 kills. Rolando and Osborne were responsible for 41 of the 46 assists. Rolando also added five service aces. For block assists, Tatianna Murray and Geme Ajekwu had four and Girardo and Allen had three.

The next match for the Blue Devils volleyball team is against Allen Community College at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at Allen Community College in Iola, Kan.
