Highland Men's Basketball Cruises Past Ottawa JV

Highland men's basketball raced out to early control on Saturday against Ottawa University JV and cruised to their 13th win of the season claiming the 114-51 victory. The win also extend their home win streak to 26-straight games.

Scotties opened the contest with a 9-0 run and didn't look back working their lead to has high as 37 points in the first half with contributions coming from everyone including a few highlight dunks by Aguek Deng as Highland led 61-24. Jaron Flowers paced the Scotties in the first half dropping 17 of his career high 20 points in the first half as Highland shot 61.9% from the floor as a team in the first half. Ottawa shot just 24.2% from the floor in the first half with 26 of their 33 first half shots coming from behind the three-point line.

The second half was much of the same as the Scotties continued to dominate the contest growing the lead to over 40 and then over 50 and ultimately lead by 60+ points as the Scotties distributed the ball nicely with season high single game high 37 assists and won the rebounding battle 68-23 to claim the 114-51.

Highland's 114 point output matches their season best showing which also came against Ottawa JV back on December 1st and the 51 points by the Braves of Ottawa JV is the lowest output by a Scottie opponent this season. Scotties shot 56.8% from the floor marking the eighth game this year shooting 50+% as a team, while Ottawa shot just 27.5% from the floor which is the 13th time this season the Scotties have held an opponent to under 40% shooting.

Six Scotties posted double figures in the game marking the third time this season that has happened in a game with a career best 20 points by Flowers pacing Highland, while he added seven rebounds. Deng recorded his fifth double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, adding five assists, while Zyon Smith and Trey Twa each had double-double's, also. Smith notched a career high in points and rebounds with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Twa tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Denzel Knight also posted a career high with 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Marquise Milton chipped in 13 points and Dylan Vincent finished with a career best 13 assists while tallying six points.

Highland sits at 13-5 on the season with the win and now turn their attention to KJCCC action which starts on Wednesday, January 22nd as the Scotties will host #5 Johnson County.
