
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team improved to 6-2-0 on the season with an impressive 5-1 victory at Hesston College Wednesday night.
Sophomore forward Caleb Brueckner and freshman forward Tanner Poirier each tallied a goal and an assist, and sophomore defender Nick McTighe registered two assists in the victory.
Freshman midfielder Grayson Niswonger got the scoring started 5:07 of the first half with his second goal of the year. Sophomore midfielder/defender Christian Martinez provided the assist.
Hesston tied the match in the ninth minute, but freshman forward Ben Points put the Cavaliers back on top for good at 26:17 with his second goal of the season, with McTighe earning his first assist. Seventeen seconds later McTighe fed Poirier to give JCCC a two-goal edge.
Johnson County would add two more insurance goals in the second half. Brueckner scored off a feed from Poirier in the 72nd minute then Brueckner provided an assist to sophomore midfielder Brian Aleman for the final score in the 84th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Ben Hertel improved to 4-1-0 between the pipes, stopping four of the five shot he faced.
Johnson County returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 21, when the host Pratt Community College at 5 p.m.
