
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Behind double digit scoring from all five starters, the No. 4 ranked Johnson County men's basketball team earned a 95-63 blowout victory over Arkansas State Mid-South Saturday afternoon at the Highland Classic. With the victory, JCCC improved to 7-0.
The Cavaliers took control of the game early, jumping out to a 14-3 lead just a little over three after the opening tip, and finished the half up 26 points, 59-33. JCCC shot 76.5 percent from the field and was 7-of-10 from 3-point range in the half. They cooled off a little in the second half, hitting just 2-of-14 3-point attempts and finished the game shotting 64.1 percent. They outrebounded the Greyhounds 34-to-14.
Sophomore guard Massi Malterer and freshmen forward Donald Bangham, Jr., and Brandon Mann led the team with each pouring in 14 points. Malterer hit 6-of-10 shots with a pair of 3-point baskets. Bangham, Jr., hit 5-of-7 shots, with three behind the arc and a free throw. He also contributed four rebounds and three assists. Mann was a perfect 7-of-7 shooting and led the team with eight rebounds to go along with four assists.
Sophomore forward Kyler Mann was 6-for-11 shooting and finished with 13 points, six rebounds and a team high five assists and sophomore guard Jordan Nichols contributed 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with two 3-pointers.
Sophomore forward Traymond Willis-Shaw came in with eight points and three boards.
Arkansas State Mid-South was led by Jesse Washington with 13 points and Samuel Chapin with 12.
Johnson County will host the University of Saint Mary JV on Tuesday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m.
